Caring for your guinea pig
Housing
Provide a large, secure enclosure with a solid floor, deep hay or safe bedding, and multiple hideaways. Keep living areas well‑ventilated and away from draughts and direct heat.
Diet
- Unlimited grass hay (e.g., timothy) for digestion and constant tooth wear.
- A small measured portion of guinea‑pig‑specific pellets daily.
- About a cup of leafy veg per pig per day; include vitamin‑C‑rich choices.
- Fresh, clean water at all times.
Enrichment
Offer tunnels, chew toys, deep piles of hay for foraging, and daily floor time in a safe run. Provide several hideouts so pigs can choose space or company.
Companionship & handling
Keep compatible pairs or groups. Handle gently with two hands (support chest and hindquarters) and supervise children.
