Buying guinea pigs
Think adoption first—many rescued guinea pigs need homes. Whether you adopt or buy, plan for the long‑term: space, a companion pair, ongoing costs (hay, bedding, veg) and vet care.
Quick checklist
- Adopt bonded pairs when possible (guinea pigs shouldn’t live alone).
- Choose healthy animals (bright eyes, clean nose, good weight, smooth movement).
- Ask about history, diet, age and compatibility with other pigs.
- Prepare an enclosure before they arrive; bring a secure carrier and some hay for the journey.
